Common questions

How does hole tracking work?

Roundside uses location on your iPhone to work out which hole you are on. Location point sharing is off by default. If you turn it on for a round, people with the link see the latest point and its accuracy, not a route. The point expires five minutes after it was sampled. Turning sharing off on your phone takes effect there immediately; the server deletes its point when it receives the change. Pauses, round ends and link revocation also clear the server point when received. If your phone is offline, the last server point can remain link-visible until it expires.

My course shows “tap to advance”.

Some courses do not have complete hole maps yet, so Roundside cannot detect holes on its own. On those courses you move to the next hole yourself with the Next hole button (and you can fix a mistake with Correct hole). Followers see the same hole progress either way.

Why does the finish time change?

The finish time is an estimate, shown as a window. It is based on your pace so far, and early in a round it is a rough guess (marked “Early estimate”). It is updated as you play, so it moves when you speed up, slow down or pause. It says when you may be finished playing, not when you will be home.

Followers are not seeing updates, or see “No update for N min”.

That message means the follower has not received a new update for a while. Usually the golfer is out of cell signal. Roundside keeps trying and the page shows the last estimate until an update arrives. Check that the round is still being shared, that the phone has signal, and that the Roundside app has not been force-closed. Location must be allowed “While Using the App”.

How do I stop sharing?

Open your round and tap Stop sharing. The link stops working right away and followers see that sharing has stopped. Finish round or End early ends the round for everyone. A link also expires by itself, no later than 12 hours after the round starts. Followers in the app can tap Stop following. On the web page, they can just close it.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription? How do I restore it?

Roundside Plus is billed by Apple. To manage or cancel, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Roundside. You can also use Manage subscription in the app. To bring a purchase to a new phone, open the Roundside Plus screen and tap Restore Purchases. Following a round is always free.

Is my location shared?

Location tracking stays on your iPhone by default. If you turn on location point sharing for a round, anyone with the link can see the latest point and its accuracy, not a route. The point expires five minutes after it was sampled. Sharing turns off on your phone immediately, and the server deletes its point when it receives the change; if your phone is offline, the last server point can remain link-visible until that expiry. Pausing or ending the round and revoking the link also clear the point when the server receives the change. Location samples are not queued; delayed samples older than two minutes are rejected. Course and hole progress can also reveal which part of the course you are on. Near me is optional and separate: it sends an approximate position, rounded to about 1 km, to find nearby courses; our application database does not store that search position. See the Privacy Policy for details.
